Following a request from BBC Spotlight and Radio Cornwall, Kevin Viner has devised two new recipies, including squirrel meat as one of the ingredients.
The interest started when a BBC Radio Cornwall listener phoned in to say squirrel was available to buy over the counter at the County Butchers in Kingsley Village. Kevin was asked to do a cooking demonstration at Kingsley Village which was later broadcast on the Spotlight news programme.
Since then, there has been articles in all of the local newspapers, the Daily Mirror, The Observer on Sunday, The Telegraph and more recently, interest from BBC Radio Solent, Five News and radio stations in Scotland, Germany and even as far as Canada.
On Wednesday 28th May, Kevin discussed his recipies live on BBC Radio 2, with Chris Evans. They spoke about the best way to cook the squirrel meat, what it tastes like and how popular it is. Kevin hopes to get cooking with the squirrel meat again later in the year, after the squirrel breeding season has finished.
